U.S. Sea Level Change Website

The U.S. Sea Level Change website, published in September 2024, is a multi-agency effort to provide accessible, authoritative sea-level science and education at the state, regional, and national levels. The website includes a sea-level change data explorer that illustrates past, present, and future sea level trends and impacts, including flooding. The site also hosts a comprehensive “Sea Level 101” guide that explains how sea level is defined, measured, and modeled, as well as personal impacts and actions.

I-ADAPT: A Flood Planning and Adaptation Tool

In April 2024, Delaware’s Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) launched the Individual Adaptation Decision and Planning Tool, or I-ADAPT. I-ADAPT is designed to help homeowners, renters, and business property owners and renters determine appropriate adaptation measures for their flood risk.

EPA Community Change Equitable Resilience Technical Assistance Program

The Community Change Grant Equitable Resilience technical assistance program, an initiative spearheaded by the U.S. the Environmental Protection Agency, will provide free assistance to entities applying for Community Change Grants. EPA plans to offer this technical assistance to up to 50 Community Change Grants applicants. The program will provide free project development assistance, community engagement, and partnership development workshops.

Nature-Based Solutions Resource Guide 2.0
December 9, 2023
The Nature-Based Solutions Resource Guide 2. 0, released by the White House in December of 2023, aims to encourage implementation and awareness of nature-based solutions employed by federal agencies and partners. The Guide defines nature-based solutions as “actions to protect, sustainably manage, or restore natural or modified ecosystems to address societal challenges, simultaneously providing benefits for people and the environment. ” Nature-based solutions can be used to provide a wide range of benefits, such as supporting wildlife, reducing heat stress, reducing future disaster risk, and overcoming environmental injustices.

TerrAdapt: Cascadia Tool
2017
The TerrAdapt:Cascadia tool, founded by a team of practitioners and scientists, is a visualization tool for monitoring habitats and habitat connectivity across the Cascadia region, which covers Washington and portions of Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and British Columbia. The tool projects habitat and ecosystem scenarios utilizing climate and land-use data, and can help users prioritize conservation practices in at-risk areas. In partnership with Cascadia Partners Forum and other regional users, the non-profit TerrAdapt.

Climate Mapping for a Resilient Washington Tool
December 2022
The “Climate Impacts for a Resilient Washington” tool was developed by the Climate Impacts Group (in partnership with the University of Idaho’s Research Data & Computer Services for web development) to provide easily accessible climate information for decisionmakers working on resilience in Washington state. The tool is primarily intended for local governments, state agencies, and other officials who are considering resilience plan changes and submitting grant applications; and GIS professionals, planners, engineers, outreach specialists, and other technical staff members.

Neighborhoods at Risk Tool
Neighborhoods at Risk is a free, online data tool that provides users with information about neighborhoods across the U. S. that are facing climate change risks. In particular, the tool displays which communities “may experience unequal impacts from hurricanes, flooding, and extreme heat. ” Neighborhoods at Risk’s data is regularly updated and is an easy way to see what the top vulnerabilities are for any community with data about people and climate exposure. The tool can enable policymakers, community leaders, and others to make more comprehensive and well-rounded decisions with equity, local context, and people in mind.

City of New York, New York: New York City (NYC) Rezoning Commitments Tracker

The New York City (NYC) Rezoning Commitments Tracker (Tracker) is an online tool that enables city residents to monitor the city’s progress in implementing several neighborhood-level comprehensive plans. The neighborhood plans, referred to generally as “rezonings,” include zoning code changes as well as city commitments to specific capital and programmatic investments. The tool can be used to both inform the city’s internal coordination and project management as well as provide external transparency for community members. The Tracker also serves to help users understand how zoning changes will manifest in tangible projects, translating the technical information from neighborhood rezoning plans into specific initiatives. Other local governments could consider developing and maintaining similar online tools to support and implement community-led decisionmaking processes including for adaptation and resilience.

New Mexico Climate Risk Map
June 17, 2021
On June 17, 2021, the Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department’s (EMNRD) Energy Conservation and Management Division (ECMD) launched the New Mexico Climate Risk Map, a tool to provide state residents with information about how climate change may impact their community. The free online map allows communities and residents to search by address and provides dozens of data layers related to five climate hazards: air quality, drought, heat, flooding, and wildfire. The Climate Risk Map displays climate change impacts to better prepare communities for risk and inspire adaptive action.

Climate and Economic Justice Screening Tool
May 2021
The Climate and Economic Justice Screening Tool (CEJST) was created pursuant to Executive Order 14008, Tackling the Climate Crisis at Home and Abroad. EO 14008 required the Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) to create a “geospatial Climate and Economic Justice Screening Tool… and interactive maps highlighting disadvantaged communities. ” A beta version of the CEJST was published along with the WHEJAC Recommendations to identify disadvantaged communities for the Justice40 Initiative.
